Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2026–2030
The District Council of Yankalilla is committed to creating an organisation and community where everyone feels welcomed, valued and able to fully participate in the opportunities, services and spaces that shape daily life in our district.
Under the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA), Council is required to have a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP). A DAIP outlines how Council will improve access to its mainstream supports and services (non‑NDIS) by reducing barriers and fostering greater inclusion for people with disability. Our DAIP also gives effect to the South Australian State Disability Inclusion Plan (gazetted in August 2025) and is reviewed every four years with annual progress reporting.
The updated DAIP 2026-2030 builds on the foundations of Council’s previous plan and focuses on continuous improvement - strengthening accessibility and inclusive practice across Council services, facilities, communication, and workplace culture. While some actions support broader community outcomes, the DAIP prioritises improving Council’s own operations so we can model best practice and lead by example.
Community consultation was undertaken in February 2026 to inform the final DAIP. Feedback from community members, including people with lived experience of disability and young people, helped refine the document and improve accessibility (including clearer tables, added image descriptions, and an Action Summary).
