The Fleurieu Coast Community Network has been established to build the capacity of our community, using existing strengths already in place such as groups already formed, skills already developed and assets within our district.
The Network is evolving to foster resilient communities, focusing on an enablement rather than delivery approach. In the real world what we hope this looks like; is us all working together collaboratively to connect, teach and provide for our community using shared resources. Using an enablement rather than delivery is a bit like the teach a man to fish analogy. Creating a community that has skills which will be sustainable.
The Network aims to create meaningful connections within our community, to provide support and build capacity for those with worries, concerns and achievements. In addition, the Network aims to facilitate a smoother communication channel between organisations within our district which in turn offers more support within our network. In the past the communication has been difficult due to a number of factors, including the shifting funding structures and staff changes. We hope that if organisations have one place to communicate, which is spread widely then they are more likely to maintain that connection.
The Fleurieu Coast Community Network will discuss community wellbeing needs and opportunities, consider how place-based supports can be offered, explore ideas enabling community action, growth and leadership, and provide opportunities for connection, collaboration and communication.
We hope this translates to identifying issues that need addressing within our community and being able to use our shared knowledge to repair these ravines.
The Fleurieu Coast Community Network includes organisations funded to our region, who in linking with each other and our community can overcome the barriers that they have found trying to expand into our region; and also Community Leaders who are the eyes and ear in our community and can accurately represent the issues and gaps in our region.
