The Depot Dirt
Here’s what our Depot teams are currently working on.
Town Maintenance
This team has been very active:
- Clean ups after recent storms
- Australia Day Celebrations
- Bullaparinga Cemetery fencing upgrade
- Safety inspections on play spaces
- Sign installations
- Multiple electrical and plumbing upgrade to Council assets
- Installation of some bin bank cameras
- Toilet facilities maintenance and cleaning
This team is quite often asked to be very reactive and is the staff we call on to fix our regions issues. They have shown time and again, their willingness to act in emergency and urgent situations, whilst remaining calm and considered. Their team environment is one based on mutual respect and genuine care. Their outcomes speak for themselves.
Parks & Gardens
- Continued to build, review and act on what will be a new parks program
- Bullaparinga Cemetery pathway upgrades
- Tree trimming for clearance purposes
- Class 1 asset maintenance on a weekly basis
You may have noticed the Council major precincts and parks have never looked better and this is entirely due to the care and dedication of this team, who truly take pride in their work and love their district.
Rural Maintenance
- Upgrade or Rarkang Road and its stormwater
- Completion of Blockers Road on the capital works program
- Completion of section 2 of Hayflat Road capital works program
- Maintenance patrol grading
- Continued upgrade of the walking trail in Big Gorge, to provide a pedestrian crossing for the creek on Council road reserve.
- Reflective post installation
- Maintenance potholing
This team has been busy upgrading many of our roads across the district, and the level of work and eye for detail has continued to increase and is no more evident than on the roads mentioned above. The difference between the old and new, is truly night and day, and with increased improvements in materials Council is aiming to only get better again.
Compliance
The compliance team worked through one the busiest holiday seasons the district has ever experienced. The team received a significant increase in complaints of parking issues from the community, and as a result there was an increase of expiations issued for non-compliance of the Australian Road Rules. This is not an enjoyable experience for these staff, but one they take very seriously to make sure holiday makers and residents alike have a safe and enjoyable experience during this period. It is worth noting, that where possible almost as many warnings and educational conversations were had to instruct patrons on the area in the “right way” to utilise the spaces. The team also:
- Undertook monitoring of beaches and recreation areas in relation to compliance with Council’s dog control and cars on beaches.
- Responded to a number of barking dogs complaints working with the owners, 13 reports of dogs and cats wandering at large and acted on several reports of dog attack and harassment incidents.
- Undertook Fire Prevention works with our team inspecting over 670 vacant block inspections through December and January.
- Responded to two reports of abandoned vehicles and 16 complaints of illegal dumping.
- Issued permits for use of community land for events such as the Normanville Markets.
Hills & Fleurieu Landscape Board - Roadside Weed Control
The Hills & Fleurieu Landscape Board will continue improving conservation and primary production outcomes in the Yankalilla Council area, through the identification and control of weed threats on the roadsides.
