ustralia Day, the District Council of Yankalilla welcomed three new Australian citizens at a citizenship ceremony. Held as an integral part of the Australia Day Celebrations, this ceremony marked a significant moment for individuals from three different countries who had chosen Australia as their new home.
Conferees were welcomed by Mayor Darryl Houston, the Presiding Officer of the ceremony, and the Honourable Leon Bignall MP who extended congratulations on behalf of the community. Mayor Houston also shared a message from The Honourable Tony Burke MP – the Minister responsible for administering the Australian Citizenship Act, which welcomes new citizens to one of the most diverse nations on earth.
Each new citizen was gifted a selection of local coastal plants grown by our Community Nursery and a jar of Vegemite.
