She by the Sea
Presented as part of the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival
She by the Sea is a group exhibition celebrating women artists and the diverse ways they express identity, creativity, and lived experience through visual art. Now in its second year, the exhibition continues to build on the success of its inaugural showing, offering a welcoming and inclusive platform for creative voices within the community.
The exhibition features works by Betty Wolf, Irene Polias, Jane Smeets, Jane Whitelock, Lynette McNamara, Mel Steer, Nicole Gilding, Carla Blair, Regine Schwarzer, Lorraine Zeni, Judith Sweetman, and additional participating artists. Together, they present a rich and varied collection of artworks across painting, photography, mixed media, and textile practices.
Each artist brings a personal perspective shaped by experience, memory, and connection, resulting in works that reflect themes of belonging, resilience, reflection, and transformation. The exhibition highlights the strength and diversity of women’s creative practices and the important role of the arts in fostering dialogue and connection.
She by the Sea reflects an ongoing commitment to community‑led arts initiatives that are accessible, authentic, and supportive of artists at all stages of practice. Visitors are invited to engage with both the artworks and the stories behind them, experiencing a vibrant celebration of creativity and shared expression.
Yankalilla District Council Community and Public Art Framework 2025 - 2030
The Arts and Culture Advisory Group has developed a Community & Public Art Framework to guide how Council plans for and supports community and public art across the district - share your thoughts to help shape what it delivers and how it reflects our people and places.
Council already has a Public Art Policy that guides how projects are approved and delivered. The Draft Community & Public Art Framework complements this by establishing guiding principles and identifying opportunities and local priorities. While both share common themes, each has a distinct role - avoiding duplication. The Framework guides what we aim to achieve, while the Policy ensures projects are delivered fairly, safely and transparently. It does not commit Council to specific projects or funding but supports consistent and informed decision-making.
Community engagement is now underway to spark discussion and gather the community's aspirations for the Framework.
This engagement closes Wednesday, 15 April 2026
