Wastewater Systems (including Septic Tanks)
The safe collection, treatment and disposal or reuse of wastewater is necessary to safeguard the health of the community and protect the environment.
Some areas of the Council area are serviced by Community Wastewater Management Systems (CWMS) as well as SA Water sewer and others will require householders to manage their household wastewater on site.
If you are required to have an on-site wastewater system, the type of system best suited to your needs and the capabilities of your site will need to be designed by a consulting wastewater engineer, having regard to a soil test report.
If you’re looking at building a new house or simply upgrading your existing wastewater control system, then you will need to lodge an application with Council to install a new system or alter your existing wastewater system.
You will also require approval if you are adding on extra bathrooms or other “wet area” and if there is any alteration to the existing plumbing work.
This is required under the South Australian Public Health (Wastewater) Regulations 2013 and the On-site Wastewater Systems Code.
There are many different types of on-site Wastewater systems including the septic tank and soakage system, aerobic systems as well as Communal Wastewater Management Systems or CWMS.
Please complete the Waste Water Application Form and return to Council. The same application form is used to cover all of these different types of systems.
Fees are also applicable on all applications. For further information on the relevant fees, check the adopted fees and charges on this site.
