Household Waste Collection

Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority

Waste collection in the District Council of Yankailla is managed by Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA).

FRWA was formed by Alexandrina Council, City of Victor Harbor, Kangaroo Island Council and Yankalilla District Council to provide sustainable and cost effective waste management and recycling services for its communities. FRWA currently manages kerbside collection of Recycling, Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) and General Waste for more than 32,000 properties across the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.

All waste types are collected on a fortnightly schedule.

For more information on local waste management, contact FRWA on 8555 2467 or email admin@frwa.com.au.

Exceptional Circumstances (EC) bin

The Yankalilla Kerbside Waste Collection Policy includes an Exceptional Circumstances (EC) provision to support households that generate higher volumes of waste. This may include large families, households managing nappy waste, or those with specific medical needs.

Eligible households can apply to receive one additional 140L general waste bin, collected fortnightly at no cost. To access the service, an application must be submitted to Council and renewed each financial year to confirm ongoing eligibility.

Approved households will be issued an annual sticker, which must be displayed on the additional bin for collection to occur. Proof of identity is required with each application, in line with Council policy.

Holiday Homes & Big Group Hosts

If you’re hosting guests or managing a holiday rental, it’s worth planning ahead for increased waste.

Council has developed a handy two-page flyer with practical tips on managing extra waste, including available bin options, smarter sorting, and ways to reduce overflow.

For properties with consistently high usage outside peak periods, owners are encouraged to consider an ongoing additional bin service or engage a commercial waste contractor.
