Community and Public Art Framework Consultation

The District Council of Yankalilla and the Yankalilla Arts and Cultural Advisory Group (Advisory Group) are inviting community feedback on the Draft Community and Public Art Framework, developed by the Advisory Group to guide the future of community and public art across the district.

This strategic Framework will assist Council and the Arts & Cultural Advisory Group in planning and supporting public art and will also play a critical role in future grant applications by demonstrating clear community and Council support.

Community engagement closes Wednesday 15 April 2026.

What is being proposed?

The Draft Community & Public Art Framework provides a five-year plan for how Council supports and delivers community and public art.

It outlines:

  • key outcomes and guiding principles
  • a clear and achievable pathway for delivering community and public art
  • a consistent and transparent approach to decision-making

The Framework is a strategic document and does not commit Council to specific projects or funding decisions. Instead, it ensures that future community and public art projects are considered, inclusive and reflective of the district’s identity.

Why are we consulting?

Until now, public art in the district has been developed on an ad hoc basis, with no consistent themes or approach. A considered Framework will help ensure that future public art:

  • Reflects the history and future aspirations of the community
  • Celebrates local culture and heritage
  • Enhances shared spaces and community amenity
  • Supports tourism by providing unique and meaningful experiences

Community input is essential to ensure the Framework reflects what matters to the community and guides Council in making future decisions about public art.

Have your say

We want to hear your thoughts on whether the Framework:

This is your opportunity to tell us if the Framework:

  • supports arts projects that reflect our community and its values
  • sets the right direction for community and public art
  • supports good decision-making
  • establishes a clear and achievable pathway
  • Identifies themes and opportunities for future projects

  • Prefer a conversation? Call Council on (08) 8558 0200 to arrange a time to chat

What happens next?

Your input will be used to refine the Framework before it is presented to Council for endorsement and to inform future opportunities for community involvement in public art projects.

Community engagement closes Wednesday 15 April 2026.
