Road Name Change: Cheesman Street, Normanville
The District Council of Yankalilla has officially corrected a long-standing error in the spelling of Cheesman Street, Normanville.
The error originated from incorrect records held by the Lands Titles Office, which resulted in the misspelling appearing in State Government data, satellite maps and street signage.
At its meeting on 17 September 2024, Council endorsed a proposal to correct the spelling in line with the wishes of the Cheesman family and the support of the Yankalilla Historical Society. In accordance with Council’s Road Naming Policy, the community was invited to provide feedback on the proposed change.
Following consideration of community input, Council resolved at its 15 July 2025 meeting, under Section 219 of the Local Government Act 1999, to correct the spelling of Cheesman Street. The change took effect on 16 July 2025.
Residents and visitors will soon see the correct spelling, Cheesman Street, reflected across all street signs and official records. Council thanks the community for their input and support throughout this process.
