Update on the Light Ward Vacancy
Following the resignation of Councillor Glen Rowlands we have been awaiting advice from the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) regarding the process to fill the resulting vacancy in Light Ward.
After consulting with the Crown Solicitor’s Office to ensure the appropriate course of action, ECSA has confirmed that the vacancy can be filled through a 'Countback' process. This involves contacting the unsuccessful candidates from the recent Light Ward Supplementary Election to determine their willingness and eligibility to fill the position, in accordance with section 6A of the Local Government Elections Act 1999.
ECSA has formally contacted the two unsuccessful candidates confirming their interest and eligibility to take up the position.
ECSA has confirmed that both candidates from the recent supplementary election are eligible and interested in the vacancy.
A vote recount will proceed.
The countback is scheduled for 10am Wednesday 16 October 2024 with provisional results expected by 12 noon.
