Normanville Swimming Pontoon Funded by Community for Return to Water this Summer

In the days following last week’s Special Council Meeting, the Normanville swimming pontoon has been the subject of much community conversation.

While the Council decided not to allocate specific funds for the pontoon’s repairs and installation, it committed to exploring alternative funding sources through donations or sponsorship to ensure the pontoon's return to the water.

Mayor Darryl Houston stated, “The first key step was to confirm whether the funding offer from the community – raised through the fundraising activities of the Yankalilla Normanville Progress Association (YNPA) – remained on the table and by the end of the week, this had been confirmed.”

He continued, “I am delighted to announce that, thanks to the incredible generosity of two anonymous donors contributing an additional $10,000, Council can now proceed with the necessary repairs and re-launch the pontoon into the waters of Normanville”.

Mayor Houston expressed his pride in the community’s support, adding, “I am proud to serve a community that is so active and engaged, and I know the Elected Members and the team of staff at Council are excited to see the pontoon back in the water ahead of Christmas”.

With funds now secured for this financial year, Council staff can proceed with ordering replacement parts. CEO Nathan Cunningham commented, “We will continue discussions in the coming weeks and months to develop a long-term plan for managing and maintaining the pontoon. This may include (per the Council decision) pursuing additional funding, corporate or community sponsorship, or exploring options for local groups and clubs to oversee this valued community asset.”
