Upgrades and Harvesting Activities Scheduled for Myponga Reservoir Reserve
Council has been advised of upcoming upgrades and harvesting activities set to take place at Myponga Reservoir Reserve in the coming weeks. These initiatives are managed by SA Water and ForestrySA.
Eatts Street Amenities Upgrade:
Beginning on Monday, 11 March, a series of upgrades will commence at Myponga Reservoir Reserve, specifically along Eatts Street. These enhancements include sealing the access road from Eatts Street to the nearby car park, creating a new vehicle track for kayak drop-off and installing new BBQ and shelter facilities at the kayak launch area. The project is expected to last approximately six weeks, subject to weather conditions.
Pine Plantation Harvesting:
Starting on Monday, 25 March, ForestrySA will undertake the harvesting of a portion of the commercial pine plantations within the reserve. This harvesting effort involves the safe removal of approximately 15 hectares of pines in the north-eastern corner of the reserve over an estimated eight-week period. These trees, planted between 1966 and 1985, are now mature and ready for harvest. It's important to note that the harvested pines will not be replanted, and the site will be returned to SA Water management. Plans are underway to enhance biodiversity in the area by exploring opportunities for planting native vegetation.
