The Normy Summer Beach Fest is all about giving young people and families a summer event to look forward to. With its festival vibe and fun activities at the beach this year’s event didn’t disappoint.

Waves of locals and holiday makers alike enjoyed the full-day program of family activities at the Normanville Foreshore. On the beach were games stations for anyone keen for some fun with beach cricket and beach volleyball adding a dash of competitive spirit to the day. Fleurieu Families were there facilitating a sand sculpture competition filling the beach with some amazing creations.

Testing wind conditions and the challenges of an event site undergoing re-development didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of attendees, however gusty offshore winds led to the cancellation of the planned stand[1]up paddle boarding and kayaking activities.

On the southern lawns talented local Hugo and Jim from Dissonant Issue of Triple J’s Like A Version fame – kicked off the live music sessions in the morning, followed in the afternoon by Hindmarsh Tiers Local Rob Edwards– who relished in the atmosphere of playing in the sunshine at the Normanville Foreshore. This created a fantastic atmosphere for parents to chill out on a picnic blanket as the kids made good use of the new foreshore playground.

A hub of service provider stalls gathered on the lawns of the main foreshore with experiences to engage families and promote their services while Fleurieu FM broadcast live from the event throughout the day. The ‘Sunscreen and Sippers’ service which has been run by the Uniting Church members for over 15 years, stationed themselves on the beach armed with sunscreen and icy poles with.

The event hosted by the District Council of Yankalilla’s Community Team in partnership with Reclink SA and the Normanville Surf Lifesaving Club is becoming the Fleurieu Coast’s signature family event for the summer season, look out for it in January 2024 when it will be coupled with the Normanville Surf lifesaving Club’s annual long swim event.
