Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority Summer Recycling Collection Report

Nice work District Council of Yankalilla!

Your recycling efforts have been outstanding and the environment thanks you!

The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) summer initiative to collect yellow and green bins weekly has resulted in a significant increase in recycling materials injected into the circular economy.

Here's the stats for DC Yankalilla compared to the previous summer:

Food organics and garden organics (FOGO) increased by 67%
Recycling increased by 23%
Waste to landfill was reduced by 24% - that is over 100 less tonnes sent to landfill!

These figures show our community adapted well to the summer collection change, and residents embraced the opportunity to recycle more.

As a collective with the City of Victor Harbor, Alexandrina Council and Kangaroo Island Council our region reduced a total of 288 tonnes of waste being sent to landfill.

Our region continues to lead the way when it comes to waste management, being the first councils in South Australia to provide weekly collection of recycling and FOGO over the summer period.
