Local Farmer Wins Nuffield Scholarship
Parawa farmer Samantha ‘Sammy’ McIntyre has been announced as one of 18 successful recipients of a 2023 Nuffield Scholarship and will now have the opportunity to travel the world researching the benefits of enriched environments for intensive sheep production, and practical steps for producer implementation.
Sammy is the Chief Financial Officer of the family’s farming business, which includes “Hillstream” in Parawa where Sammy is also the Farm Manager. She is fascinated by production benefits resulting from enriched environments that encourage natural animal behaviours.
The scholarship (sponsored by Rabobank Australia) will provide Sammy with the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with, agricultural businesses and research institutions around Australia but also in countries in Africa, South and North America and Europe.
Nuffield Australia awards scholarships each year to farmers in Australia with the objective to increase practical farming knowledge and management skills and techniques generally.
