Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions

Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions (previously Elected Member Forums) provide a valuable opportunity to enhance Council decision-making processes by providing opportunities for Council members to become informed on issues and seek further clarification prior to making decisions at formally constituted Council Meetings.

These sessions are held in accordance with section 6 of Council's Code of Practice - Formal Proceedings of Council and Committee Meetings pursuant to Section 90A of the Local Government Act 1999.

Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions are currently held once a month on the first Tuesday of the month, commencing at 3.00pm. Information & Briefing Sessions are held in a location as determined by the CEO (please check the agenda for the location of each session).

Public Attendance

Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions are open to the public.

In some instances, it is necessary to close the meeting to the public to discuss items in Confidence. You can read more about the Confidentiality Provisions and view the Confidentiality Registers here.

Public Presentations

In line with Section 4.19 of the Code of Practice - Formal Proceedings of Council and Committee, an Organisation or Member of the Public may be permitted to provide a presentation to an Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions, providing the information or presentation is relevant to a matter currently under consideration. The duration of these presentations is up to 10 minutes and generally will be limited to one (1) presentation per meeting.

Presentations will only be made to Council in exceptional circumstances and must be agreed to by the Mayor.

If you wish to seek approval to make a presentation to an Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions, you will need to submit your request in writing to the Principle Office of Council, addressed to the Mayor and clearly outlining the topic of your presentation.

Requests to make a presentation must be received no later than 5pm the Wednesday prior to the scheduled Elected Member Information & Briefing Sessions.
