Agriculture and Primary Production

The Yankalilla district has traditionally been used for dairy farming, commercial forestry, pasture improvement and livestock grazing. In recent years there has been a focus on other forms of primary production such as vineyards at Myponga and Normanville, seed cleaning operations at Wattle Flat, land based aquaculture and commercial forest plantations. The Board's staff provide expertise in integrated pest control techniques and programmes to help reduce the impact and threat of pest animals and plants on agriculture.

Roadside Weed Control
is considered to be a HIGH PRIORITY by the Board and is in fact a key responsibility conferred under the provisions of the Animal and Plant Act, 1986.

When the Board incurs expense in controlling proclaimed plants on road reserves, the owner of the land adjoining the road reserve is liable for all costs. Roadside control will be carried out in your rural area. Proclaimed plants on road reserves must be controlled at all times during the year.

If you suspect proclaimed plants are on the road reserve adjoining your property and you wish to undertake your own effective control, you must notify the Board of your intentions on an annual basis to avoid unnecessary cost to you.
