Yankalilla Visitor Information Centre Shines At Tourism’s Night of Nights

District Council of Yankalilla Visitor Information Shines At Tourism’s Night of Nights

The District Council of Yankalilla has proven its Visitor Information Centre is one of the best in the state after winning a prize at the SA Tourism Awards for the second consecutive year.

The Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre scooped up the Silver at the awards ceremony on Friday, November 10.

Council’s Chief Executive Nigel Morris said the award was a testament to the centre’s staff who consistently provided top quality face-to-face service to visitors from far and wide.

“We are delighted to have been awarded Silver at the SA Tourism Awards last night, building on the success of our Bronze award from last year. We are genuinely honoured to receive this recognition from our peers,” Natasha Hunt, Yankalilla Visitor Information Centre’s Coordinator said.

“We are extremely proud of the fine quality tourism experiences we have on offer in the Fleurieu, and as an industry that is so vital to not just the local economy but to South Australia, we are thrilled to have been recognised in such a way.

“This recognises the consistent delivery of high quality and face-to-face information services that our visitors receive when they come to our district.”

Highlights during 2017 for the VIC include:

  • Visitor numbers increasing by 13% for 2016/2017
  • Total online bookings, including accommodation, tours, Sealink, Museum entry and events rising by 59% in the qualifying period
  • Utilising technology and social media for visitor servicing and building the Fleurieu Coast Brand
  • The roll out of the Fleurieu Coast Free Bike scheme
  • An affiliate partnership set up with booking.com – making the Yankalilla VIC the first VIC in South Australia to become an affiliate partner.
  • Building relationships and assisting event coordinators to attract more events to the region

 

The SA Tourism Awards recognise the best experiences and operators in South Australia, with the VIC winning in the Visitor Information Services category.

Clare Valley Wine, Food & Tourism Centre were Gold and Tourism Kangaroo Island were awarded Bronze.
